Becoming a Community Called Tov
Reimagining Church Together with The Ravens Collective
Over the past several weeks, our Ravens community has journeyed through A Church Called Tov — a book that dares to ask what it really means for the church to reflect the goodness of God.
We’ve talked about empathy over image, grace over fear, justice over loyalty, and service over celebrity. But as we reach the end of this series, the question that lingers is this:
👉 What kind of people will we become?
Because the goal of all of this — all the discussions, healing, and honesty — isn’t just to critique the church as it was, but to become the kind of community God envisioned all along: a church called Tov.
What Is a “Tov” Community?
In Scripture, tov means “goodness.” But not the kind of goodness that’s just “nice” or polite. Tov is active, healing, and restorative. It makes things right again. It restores things as God intended.
A Tov community doesn’t chase power, platform, or perfection — it pursues Christlikeness.
It’s where empathy replaces performance.
Where grace replaces fear.
Where justice replaces silence.
Where service replaces status.
This is what The Ravens Collective exists to become — a place where those who have been hurt by religion, overlooked by the institution, or searching for spiritual safety can experience Jesus again — not through hierarchy, but through hospitality.
Our Mission
To create a safe, Christ-centered space for ravens to rediscover the goodness of God through community, conversation, and spiritual formation.
We are not building another church service — we are cultivating a spiritual family, a community.
A people who dwell with God, walk in truth, and embody goodness in action.
Our Vision
To become a Tov community that reflects Christ’s character to the world:
A refuge for the weary.
A home for the spiritually homeless.
A place of honesty, healing, and hope.
Our dream is to form circles of tov — pockets of goodness that ripple outward, transforming homes, friendships, and even the wider church through grace, truth, and compassion.
Our Values
The Ravens Collective is grounded in these seven values inspired by A Church Called Tov:
Empathy — We listen deeply and lead with compassion.
Grace — We extend what we’ve received from Christ — forgiveness, freedom, and family.
Truth-Telling — We speak with honesty and courage, even when it costs us.
Justice — We pursue what’s right, not what’s easy.
Service — We lead with humility.
People-First — We see every person as an image-bearer of God.
Christlikeness — We center everything around becoming more like Jesus.
These are not just ideals — they are the heartbeat of who we’re becoming together.
Where We Go from Here
As A Church Called Tov reminded us, the purpose of the church isn’t achievement, numbers, or prestige. It’s Christlikeness.
And that’s our invitation:
To embody the goodness of God — in how we listen, how we love, and how we lead.
To be a people who heal, not harm.
To be a community that reflects Jesus more than any brand or building ever could.
Because the world doesn’t need another church that protects its image.
It needs a people who reflect His.
Welcome to The Ravens Collective.
Welcome to a community called Tov.
